Top 5 "surprises" in the past year!

Ok so I’m not talking Padron, Fuente or Davidoff here. This list is 5 cigars that aren’t top of mind or taking up tons of shelf space at your local shop. Most aren’t even on local shops. These are lesser known or more uncommon brands to most smokers. During COVID I spent most weekends and many nights trying different cigars and most were well worth it. They are not in any particular order. Here we go.

Espinosa Laranja Reserve I bought a 5 pack Espinosa sampler and liked them all but this one really stood out. Eric Espinosa is someone I’d like to have a beer with and smoke one of these with. Laranja was awesome. Cool ass orange band, great tasting smoke. Quality was great on every cigar I’ve had (I’ve purchased 2 or 3 boxes since that sampler pack. It’s now a mainstay in the humidor. Well worth the price. Some local shops sell them, if not ask them to get them. Here’s my full review. Archetype Chapter 2 Axis Mundi Joint venture with Ventura Cigars and Drew Estates. I saw a story about this cigar online but never heard of it before, then saw a deal on a ten pack during COVID so I bought it. I think I’ve smoked 20 or 30 since then and they’ve all been awesome. I wrote a full review here. Balmoral Dueta It seems like anything EP Carillo joins in on is top notch. This cigar is blended for Balmoral by EPC. It’s fantastic and we’ll worth it. I got one in a sampler 5 pack that I added to my cart at the last minute. I’ve smoked 3 or 4 since then but have yet to ever see them in any local shop. I’ve smoked other Balmoral brands and they’re all decent but this one outstanding. Tatuaje Tattoo Bonita Made at the My Father plant for Tatuaje and wow! Sampler packs are a great way to try different cigars and this one was 5 different Tatuajes. I had read all the articles about this Miami based company doing cool things so I thought this was a great way try some. The Tattoo was awesome. I’ve since bought a box of them and let a couple of my cigar loving friends try them. They all thought it was fantastic too. A. Flores Privada Habana Another brand I never heard of, other than the PDR brand. I went in on a ten pack with a friend and was really impressed. I’ve tried about 6 different A. Flores brands and they were all really smooth, high quality. This one was my favorite though. It’s not a typical local shop stocked brand. I reviewed it here.
